8.14: half-way through august check in!
my fav tunes, books, and movies from the first half of the month!
Hey divas,
Can you believe that we’re already halfway through August???? Dare I say it’s slipping away into a mom—let me stop. So much of this month has been spent on the beach, pouring into book after book after book. I don’t really know why, but during the summer I just end up reading like a maniac. I think it’s because, during the summer, I have a lot more time to myself, which allows me to rot in bed or in a beach chair for a couple of hours and really immerse myself in something. This summer’s choice has been the A Court of Thornes and Roses book series, which, candidly, I have been obsessed with. I’m not particularly into hyper-fantasy romance books that border on sounding like Wattpad fan-fiction, but this book series is just so immersive that I can’t pull away from it. I’m on the third book now and I’m still transfixed 1200 pages deep into the series. Other than that, I also read A House with Good Bones, a southern gothic horror novel about a rose garden, and Patricia Wants to Cuddle, a book about a lesbian cult who lives on an island and takes care of Bigfoot who also happens to live there. So, it’s been an eclectic summer of reading lots of unique stories I definitely couldn’t have come up with myself.
Other than that, and before we get into music, I have also seen a couple of great films this month so far! So far, the one that’s stuck with me most is the new Hunter Schafer horror movie Cuckoo. A gory body horror film set in the Swiss Alps where Hunter Schafer plays a final girl? It couldn’t have been more my style! Speaking of interesting horror movies set in unique places, I finally got to see TRAP after much anticipation. During the press run, the director described the film as “Silence of the Lambs but set at the Eras Tour,” which totally piqued my interest. I mean, was I not gonna go see a movie that blends my two favorite things: horror movies and concerts? Both movies definitely didn’t disappoint, though I found myself liking Cuckoo a lot more because of its stylistic choices and cinematography.
Ok now finally getting to music! This has been a fun past couple of weeks in terms of releases. I am still in the mood to really only listen to singles, though some full albums have definitely made it into my full rotation. Starting with albums…
